On its website, the band announced a vow to “change the way music is listened to” with the help of their longtime corporate sponsor (?) Apple. Not a good start. If a music service wants to buy an album for its users, it could at least demand some quality control. Instead, iTunes users got this: U2 performing an electronic pastiche of U2. After decades of superstardom, they’ve earned the right to not reinvent themselves, which makes it all the more frustrating when they fail trying.
